Cryer & Stott Duke of Wellington

Cheese of the Month - Duke of Wellington

Published on Tuesday 10 April 2018

It was inevitable when we started the wine of the month series that we would have to compliment it with a Cheese of the Month. Our delicatessen features around 350 varieties of cheeses from around the world and also some much closer varieties.

To kick us off in fine style is one of the newest additions to Lewis & Cooper's vast offering, the incredibly delicious Duke of Wellington, a cheese that boasts Royal patronage amongst its many plaudits.

Created by award-winning cheese producers, Cryer & Stott and inspired by the Tour de France Yorkshire Grand Depart in 2014, this special cheese is a celebration of the Duke of Wellington purchasing the Hotel de Charost in Paris (now the official residence of the British ambassador to France) merging a Yorkshire cheese with French Roquefort cheese to celebrate the long history of entente cordiale between the two nations.

A Gold Winner at the World Cheese Awards, the Duke of Wellington was previously supplied exclusively to embassies and the Queen has been served it on three separate occasions. Now available from Lewis & Cooper, this exclusive cheese has been made available to the discerning palette of all cheese lovers.

Matured for 15 weeks and with a lovely buttery taste and creamy texture, this cheese is delicious served with a drizzle of honey. A great introduction to blue cheeses for beginners, Duke of Wellington isn't overpowering and is free from the metallic taste displayed by some blue cheeses.

It also pairs exceedingly well with our wine of the month, Sixty Clicks Shiraz Mataro.
