Lewis & Cooper Gift Department
Some of our customers are not fully aware of the broad range of goods and services we provide within our flagship high street store in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
Some think they know about our ranges of exquisite china and glassware, but haven’t ventured upstairs to our first floor for some time.
Well, it’s about time they did, because Gift Department Manager Sam Booth and her team have been carrying out something of a revolution up there in recent months, sourcing some fantastic items for kitchen, dining and gifts. So good in fact, you’ll have trouble parting with them as presents!
With Christmas just around the corner, and so many delightful gifts to choose from, we spoke to Sam to find out about some of her favourite products…
Having spent her formative years in Richmond, North Yorkshire, 27-year-old Sam joined Lewis & Cooper to manage our tearoom – a role she still combines with running the gift department:
“Lewis & Cooper is special because there is always a good atmosphere in the shop and if you’re looking for something different, you can almost always usually find it here,” she said “I like working here, meeting different people and helping the store build on its reputation.”
Mrs Booth likes test driving her finds back in the family kitchen.
“I really enjoy cooking: one of my favorite meals is a roast dinner with all the trimmings. My favorite kitchen gadget is a Finecut from Fissler. It’s brilliant for cutting fruit and vegetables or spin-drying fresh herbs. The razor sharp Finecut is a fantastic eco-friendly and versatile pull-cord chopper. It’s also a doddle to clean, with brilliant design and engineering – just as you’d expect from Germany’s number cookware maker. It’s also a snip at just £29. Look out for Fissler’s superb pressure cookers – coming to L&C soon."
As well as lots of beautiful, functional kitchen gadgets, the department has some very desirable gifts for all ages. Among Sam’s top recommendations this Christmas are a range of cups, plates and spoons produced by Portmerion to mark this year’s 40th anniversary of Eric Carle’s children’s classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Items from £6 include mugs, money boxes, melamine plate, bowl and mug sets as well as gorgeous boxed ceramic mug and snack plate sets and ceramic mug, plate and bowl sets.
“Hunting and hip flasks are a perennial bestseller – for men and, increasingly, women too: check out our elegant, feminine range,” said Sam.
The gift department has also recently taken delivery of a fantastic range of gorgeous aprons from Ulster Weavers.
With names such as Betty, Mary Jane and Doris, the new range of flattering, fitted pinnies from Ulster Weavers offer a colourful antidote to boring, functional aprons. Picture sporting a selection of aprons (and brandishing a collection of cookware items!) is Sam with Andy and Mel from our online team.
"We're trialing a few of our gift items on our website in the run up to Christmas to see what our online customers think. For now, you'll find hip flasks and Very Hungry Caterpillar Set in the Hamper shopping pages in the 'Gifts' category, and in theFoodhall shopping pages in a new 'Gifts Ideas' category you'll find a selectrion of aprons - a bit of fun to add to a create your own gift hamper perhaps? We have plans in the new year to give our gift department their very own shopping pages, which is really exciting!" said Sam.
Sam and the team look forward to welcoming you soon...and don’t forget that our smaller Yarm store carries a selection of our best-selling gifts...and for those further afield, please take a peep at our Hamper shopping pages and Foodhall shopping pages for our gift ideas.
If Ulster Weavers Betty, Mary Jane and Doris aprons are just a little too feminine for you, perhaps you'll prefer our own stylish L&C black aprons, so artfully modeled in the photo on the right by cricketer and Strictly Come Dancing star Darren Gough on a recent visit to our Yarm store.
The rest of the UW and Portmerion ranges rate among the department’s top three sellers, along with our fantastic Zeal Silicone utensils.
Also new in are some witty festive cafetiere and teapot covers, a wide range of our popular rocking roosters and some fantastic glassware from LSA.
Add to these our traditional collectors’ items and lovely pieces from Border Fine Arts (shown below) and cups and tins with a comfortingly retro feel to them, and you’ve got a real recipe for success in-store.
What’s more, a free gift-wrapping service is available for all in-store purchases.
