A GOURMET food, wine and hamper business that has raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes is lending its support to a local hospice charity.
Lewis & Cooper has chosen as its nominated charity Herriot Hospice Homecare, which provides care at home to terminally-ill patients across Hambleton and Richmondshire. The charity, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, needs to raise at least 200,000 to cover running costs each year.

A FINE food, wine and hamper company that has been at the heart of North Yorkshire for more than eleven decades has confirmed plans to expand with a third store.
A drinks licence was granted to Lewis & Cooper earlier this week for its new premises at 23 Parliament Street, Harrogate, allowing the firm to open the doors there ahead of the busy festive season. It aims to be trading in the attractive corner building in the spa town's fashionable Montpellier Quarter within two weeks.

THE death has been announced of Lewis & Cooper director and respected accountant David Lewis.
Despite his surname, Mr Lewis, 69, had no blood link to the gourmet food, wine and hamper firms Victorian founders. But his involvement with the North Yorkshire business went back almost 30 years, initially as auditor.

GOURMET foodstore Lewis & Cooper has launched a contest to find the region's best pumpkin carvers.
The firm's half term holiday challenge will offer prizes for both adult and child entrants and is free to enter. All entries must be delivered to the store at 92 High Street, Northallerton, by 4pm on Thursday, October 27. They will be judged the following day and the best will go on display in the shop window.

JUDGES searching for the country's best food and drink have awarded their top award to a plum pudding produced in North Yorkshire.
Lewis & Cooper's dedicated team of eight kitchen staff work all year round to hand-make plum puddings -  last year they produced 46,000. Now their efforts have been rewarded with a three-star gold Great Taste Award from the Guild of Fine Food.

LEWIS & COOPER has been highly commended a national contest to find the nation's Deli of the Year.
Customers of the respected Northallerton store nominated the fine food and wine outlet as part of the competition, which aims to find the place with the best deli attitude in the UK. It is organised by Olives Et Al, an artisan food producer in Dorset, as a way of raising the awareness of delis everywhere and helping them get real feedback from their customers in a way that is both supportive and helpful to business owners.

16/02/2011Town's pancake race challenge is renewedTRADERS and businesses in a North Yorkshire town are being encouraged to take up a renewed pancake race challenge.
After a 20 year absence, fine food store Lewis & Cooper reinstated the annual Shrove Tuesday flipping and running race last year.
Bosses and staff from stores and businesses across Northallerton came together – many in fancy dress – to dash to the finish line, frying pans to the fore.
The race, held on the Applegarth playing field, proved a fun success. More than 30 competitors helped raise almost £500 for the town’s Friarage Hospital into the bargain.
This year’s event gets underway at 11am on Tuesday, March 8, with pupils from Applegarth Primary School taking part for the first time.

AN EARLY Christmas shopping extravaganza has broken a food firm's previous records, helping towards its 2,000 fundraising target.

Lewis & Coopers Christmas Food & Drink Festival, held on Sunday [7], saw hundreds flock to the Northallerton store to meet suppliers and producers and taste their wares.

The gourmet food and wine business this year re-named its traditional pre-Noel shopping day, where customers are charged entrance fees the proceeds of which go to chosen charities.

On Sunday, records for both visitor numbers and sales were broken, which means more money than ever can be donated to this years good causes: Help For Heroes and the L Cpl Ben Hyde Memorial Trust.

THE death has been announced of Lewis & Cooper company secretary David Hindley.

Mr Hindley, 71, was a major shareholder of the family-run North Yorkshire food and wine business: his great-great uncle, George Lewis, jointly founded the firm in 1899.

The North Yorkshire firm has always found success at the annual event with its award-winning luxury fruit cakes and plum puddings, tens of thousands of which are made at its kitchens in Northallerton.
